Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola on Thursday called on the Nigeria Labour Congress to mediate between the federal government and the Nigeria Union of Teachers so as to end the lingering teacher’s strike in the Country.
He made the call in Osogbo while playing host to the NLC National President, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar who was on a courtesy call at the Government House , Osogbo.
Governor Oyinlola, who described the on – going teachers’ strike as a threat to the education sector and the future of the country appealed to the NLC to see it as a situation which required urgent intervention.
Earlier, the NLC President had commended Governor Oyinlola for his administration’s labour friendly policies.
“Though teachers across the country are currently on strike, I like to point out however that teachers in Osun are not on strike against Governor Oyinlola. This is because he has done so much for the profession,” he said.
The NLC boss further charged the governor to wade into the crisis with a view to resolving it on time, stressing, that Prince Oyinlola should add his own voice so the power that could resolve the issue as soon as possible.
“Particularly, I must commend Your Excellency for taking the interest of our members into consideration in all you do. You recalled all sacked teachers when you took over in the state.I am happy to hear that there is no problem about the 15% salary implementation,”the NLC President said.
