Osun won’t borrow to finance budget -Oyinlola

The Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has promised that his administration would continue to implement a balanced budget and would not borrow a Kobo.

The governor made the promise Monday at the opening session of this year’s treasury board meeting where next year’s budget was being considered.

The governor, while emphasising that like in the past, the 2008 budget would serve as a tool for implementing the programmes contained in the SEEDS document. He stressed that his administration would make concerted efforts to achieve the target set within the time frame.

“We must assess critically our performances in the last four years and come up with good suggestions to take care of areas of noticeable deficiencies in respect of programmes/budget formulation and implementation,” he said.

The governor said an assessment of the implementation of SEEDS had been done which revealed that his administration had “to make concerted efforts to achieve the set targets.”

The governor, however, warned that any agency of government that failed to implement the 2008 budget in line with due process would be sanctioned while “accounting officers of agencies of government must ensure that all requests for funds are backed up with adequate budgetary provisions.”

The governor also pledged that his administration would continue to promote probity, accountability and transparency in governance while stressing that the budgetary process would be participatory, taking care of all stakeholders in Osun state’s economy.
