News >> CNPP COUNSELS ACTION CONGRESS ON PEACE IN OSUN

Press Release

The Osun State chapter of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has counseled the Action Congress on the need for peace in Osun State.

Leaders of six political parties were at the office of the governor in Osogbo on Monday where they condemned the recent bomb blast in Osogbo and the gun attack on the state chairman of the PDP.

Osun state Chairmen of Action Alliance, United Nigeria Peoples Party, Labour Party, Democratic Peoples Party, Movement for Democracy and Justice and National Democratic Party during the visit said the Action Congress should stop fanning embers of discord and violence in Osun State.

“We strongly condemn the orgy of violence, wanton destruction of properties, arson and acrimony generated since the April 14th 2007 gubernatorial result was announced. We were also shocked by the evil planting of a bomb at the Osun State Secretariat, Abere.

“The most recent attempted assassination of the PDP chairman is equally very unfortunate. These acts are condemnable and we will like the state government to beef up security around government officials and properties to check these evil acts,” the CNPP said through its spokesmsn, Pastor Popoola Olatunji.

It therefore, called on aggrieved politicians to explore lawful ways of seeking redress instead of taking the law into their hands.

“We therefore, call again on all Osun indigenes to believe in the rule of law as the last hope of the common man and wait for the verdict of the election tribunal set up by the judiciary.

“We call on the AC governorship candidate, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola to sheath his sword if actually he wants to rule our peaceful state in the future and call on all his agents to await the verdict of the election tribunal,” the CNPP said.

Governor Oyinlola in his response thanked the CNPP for their concern for Osun State and promised that no stone will be left unturned to maintain peace in Osun state.
