Osun state University took off on Friday the 21st of September in all its six campuses with the State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola explaining that the fees charged by the Institution were to ensure quality education for the students.
Governor Oyinlola who spoke for the first time on the fees charged by the Institution said quality education required huge financial investment.
"Our plan is to guarrantee excellent education that will make graduates at UNIOSUN hold their heads high anywhere in the world and compare favourably with products of the best Universities in the world," he said.
The governor, who gave letters of awards to 40 doctoral fellows of the Institution sponsored on overseas training described UNIOSUN as an institution poised to make a difference.
He disclosed that to achieve the set objectives, his government had set up an International Advisory Board to advise on strategies for fast tracking the development of the university.
Pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sola Akinrinade and the institution's Implementation Committee chairman, Prof. Peter Okebukola expressed delight at the maximum support they got from governor Oyinlola.
They both pledged to make the university truly world class and " a centre of excellence in teaching, learning and research."
"This university will be a magnet attracting the very best of students from all over the world. It will be the first choice of top-rate researchers from the very best universities from all over the world. It will be the most cited university in Nigeria as the model to copy in teaching, research and community service." Okebukola said.
