L.G POLLS: NINE PARTIES WORK FOR PEACE IN OSUN
Political parties in Osun State held a brain storming session on Tuesday in Osogbo on the need for peace in the coming local government elections.
The parley organised by the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) attracted key people from the traditional institution, security agencies, government and political parties.
Speaking at the occasion Oba Ibrahim Bamigbade, The Eburu of Iba asked politicians to give peace a chance before, during and after the council polls.
The Oba, who was the royal father of the day, said the state’s Obas would complement efforts at fostering peace and orderliness in the state.
In his own speech, Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola commended the CNPP for the initiative adding that peace was not negotiable in any state desirous of progress.
Prince Oyinlola, who was represented by Mr. Goke Omigbodun, his Special Adviser on Information and Inter-party relations stressed the need for continued cooperation among political parties in the state.
He reminded politicians that in every contest, a winner was sure to emerge while others should be sportsmanly in defeat
Prince Oyinlola added that he was happy that all political parties in the state were cooperating with OSSIEC to have a hitch-free local government election on Saturday.
Assistant State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. S.A Odegoke in his comments advised politicians against promoting acts of hooliganism.
The conference was attended by no fewer than nine political parties contesting the Saturday elections.
The parties included the Action Alliance, Peoples Democratic Party, Democratic Peoples Alliance, United Nigeria Peoples Party, National Democratic Party, Movement for Democracy and Justice, National Social Democratic Party, Democratic Peoples Party and Progressive Action Congress.
Chairman Organizing Committee of the CNPP, Elder Isaac Ogunleye, in his welcome address said the parley was organised because of the realization that Osun State needed peace at all times.
