Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adejare Bello has expressed satisfaction at the peaceful conduct of Traditional rulers from Atakumosa and Ilesa in protesting their grievances over monthly entitlements
Hon. Bello expressed this, when the House played host to hundreds of the traditional rulers from the two areas of the state.
For the second time, a host of traditional rulers from Atakumosa visited Osun State House of Assembly to protest allegedly discrepancies in thier monthly emoluments from Owa Obokun of Ijesa-Land, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.
The recent visit was dramatic as traditional rulers from Ileas East and West joined their counterparts from Atakunmosa East and West for same purpose.
According to them, they visited the State Paliament to thank the members for their concern over the issue at Stake and as well to register another protest over a circuler Letter dated April 22, 2008 from the Minisrty of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development which stipulated that 5% should be paid from the traditional funds for administration and disbursement of the paramount ruler of ijesa land, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.
Speaking, the Obanla of Ijesa Land, Chief Oyekanmi Ogedengbe who was joined by Awara of Iwara, Oba Adewale Kazim, Adimula of Ife-wara, Oba Ezekiel Owolola and Asaobi of Isaobi, Oba Gbenga Olowe said contrary to thier expectations, Oba Aromolaran contravened the guidelines in the letter at the recent budget meeting comprising the four Local Government Areas in question.
The traditional rulers pleaded with the Speaker and other Legislators to look into the issue presented before the House.
They demanded for a reversal in the existing guidelines to when traditional rulers were being paid individually saying the latest circular is to their disadvantages.
Responding, the Speaker, Hon. Adejare Bello lauded the traditional rulers for being logical in protesting their grievances.
Hon. Bello, however, urged the traditional rulers from Atakunmosa East as well as Ilesa- East and West to lodge their complaints officially with relevant documents to back their claims.
The Speaker said the House cannot address their grievances in isolation of the relevant papers.
