Give Your Unalloyed Support To President Buhari; Aregbesola Urges Council Of Traditional Rulers Of Nigeria
The Governor, State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has implored all members of National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria to give their unalloyed support and cooperation needed by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as being given to his predecessors.
Governor Aregbesola who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola made the request while addressing the delegation of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria who paid him a condolence visit over the demise of the late Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
Oyetola stated that the visit of the traditional rulers symbolized the existing unity, peace, harmony and co-habitation between and among the traditional rulers in Nigeria regardless of socio-cultural, ethnic and religious differences.
He stressed that the role of the traditional rulers towards the socio-political stability and economic integration can never be neglected, reiterating that the nation’s traditional rulers have contributed tremendously since the discovery of this country to the present moment.
The Chief of Staff affirmed that though the traditional rulers have been supportive, collaborative and strongly behind the successive government in Nigeria before, during and after the independence, enjoined them to continue in the same spirit in giving their unflinching support to the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Nigeria is at the period where royal contributions, counseling, opinions, views and ideas are mostly needed by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in his efforts of fight against corruption, fight against insurgency and other social vices so as to take the country to the greater heights as desired by all”, Oyetola said.
Having welcomed members of the delegation to the state, Alhaji Oyetola described the late Oba Sijuwade as a detribalized monarch whose abiding dream was for the emergence of a Nigerian nation devoid of tribalism, ethnicity and religious intolerance.
He stated that Oba Sijuade who was one of the members of the Traditional Council built and nurtured friendship and enduring bonds with many personalities across the length and breath of Nigeria with his lifelong closeness to the Late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero an abiding testament to the possibility of cross-cultural relationships irrespective of differences in religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Alhaji Oyetola stated that Oba Sijuwade was a great supporter and pillar of Governor Aregbesola’s administration on his irrevocable commitment to the betterment of the social and economic conditions of the people of the State.
“Late Oba Sijuwadea’s affinity and love to Governor Aregbesola was demonstrated to the end of life and this was evident in the last text he sent to Aregbesola on the eve of his departure to the United Kingdom for medical treatment where he said ” I am still not feeling good. So I am traveling abroad for medical treatment this week, but I place you (Aregbesola) and your government in the hand of God and under His continuous guidance”, he said.
Reading the condolence letter sent by the Chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria and Emir of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the leader of the delegation who doubled as the Chairman, Coordinating Committee of National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, HRH, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar said the death of the late Ooni was received with rude shock as it came to the Council at the time his (Okunade) role was needed most.
Alhaji Abubakar said the late Ooni was a father and astute leader to the traditional rulers in Nigeria, Africa and the entire world.
Abubakar described his death as painful and a monumental loss to the Yoruba race and beyond.
He stated that though his death was heart-breaking, shocking and sorrowful but the bereaved should be consoled by the fact that Oba Sijuwade left a good name and worthy legacies behind for the present and incoming generations.
He referred to Oba Sijuwade while alive, as a patriotic and highly respected traditional ruler of the Council who did everything humanly feasible for the unity, progress, peaceful co-existence between and among Yorubas, Igbos and Hausas, with utmost passion, love and unprecedented good conscience.
He stated further that Ooni’s commitment, sterling performance, exemplary royal quality, trustworthiness, forthrightness, astute traditional leadership, honesty in the local, state, regional, national and international affairs would be forever remembered in the history of traditional council in Nigeria.
Alhaji Abubakar noted that Oba Sijuwade laboured tremendously for the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria and Africa, saying his invaluable contribution and counseling as a foremost traditional ruler towards political stability and national development remained inestimable.
” The Late Ooni was a father to all in this council and used his wealth of experience to foster unity, peace and harmony within and outside Nigeria without sentiment”, Abubakar affirmed.
Alhaji Abubakar noted that his inimitable natural love for the people in promoting and sustaining mutual tolerance and understanding in Africa was second to none.
” There is no doubt in the fact that the late Oba Sijuade lived a life of worthy fulfillment, selfless service to humanity and his reign was indelibly marked by unprecedented laudable achievement, peace and prosperity in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, Africa and the whole world.
He sympathized with immediate family of the late monarch, Governor Aregbesola, people of the State of 0sun and the entire citizens in Nigeria.
He prayed God Almighty to grand the soul of the departed monarch the benefit of paradize and give the bereaved the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss which the vacuum created by his death might have caused.
