Osun 2020 Budget: We Target At Least 80% Performance – Budget Commmsioner
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Osun, Prof. Olalekan Yinusa has stated that the 119.5bn budget of restoration for 2020 which was presented to the state House of Assembly by the state Governor for approval is targeted at achieving at least 80% performance.
The Commissioner who stated this on Friday while featuring on a popular radio programme tagged “Frank Talk” on Rave fm in Osogbo, said the budget was formulated to touch the lives of the masses in Osun.
He said the Governor decided to approve what is practicable and achievable in the budget because the days of drafting a budget for budgeting sake is long gone, stressing that a bogus budget estimate which does not perform is just a waste of time.
Prof. Yinusa said the reduction in the total amount of the budget compared with the previous year was because of the need to face the reality of what the government can actually do for the people out of their numerous needs.
The University Don who noted that the people were carried along in the formulation process of the budget, added that the Adegboyega Oyetola administration is mindful not to loose the trust of the people which can occur if government fails to deliver on its promises.
He said, “Budgeting in developed societies of the world has gone beyond just writing down bogus figures, you must think of what is achievable, you must not leave things to chance, you must consider where the money to implement the budget will come from.
“The reduction in the 2020 budget estimates is because we don’t want to be deceived by just packing the budget with what we can’t afford. We have packaged in the budget estimate what we know we can do and this is how to continue to gain the trust of the people.
“I can assure you that the the 2020 budget of restoration will achieve at least 80% performance, that’s our target and I can assure you that we will achieve it because it was a carefully formulated budget estimate done with utmost sincerity and inclusion of the needs of the people”. Yinusa explained.
Fielding questions on how to get the revenue to drive the budget, the Commissioner said apart from the revenue which is expected from the Federal Allocation Account, the state government has reorganized the Osun Internal Revenue Service in such a way that the revenue of the state will grow and be used to support the budget.
He then used the medium to call on the people of the state to support the government by paying their taxes and other levies so that the tax administration will continue to improve and the government will have surplus funds to aid development.
Prof. Yinusa urged the people to continue to put their trust in the administration of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, saying they will not be let down.
“we need the support of the people through the payment of their taxes and other levies deliver on our promises. This is a government that they can trust with their money, this government will use their money to work for them that I can assure them.
“it’s true that we will also rely on the money from FAAC, but we must boost our revenue to be on a safer side”. He noted.
