Profile of the Ministry

The ministry of culture and tourism is set up with vision, mission, values and expectation. The ministry, established on 24th August, 2007 is saddled with the responsibility of propagating, promoting and protecting the culture and tourism potentials within and outside the state.

The ministry operates with the following departments;

  1. Field research and documentation
  2. Hotel and hospitality management
  3. Museum and Monument
  4. Administration and supplies
  5. Finance and account

It also supervises the following

  1. Council for Art and Culture
  2. Osun state Tourism board

Objectives Of the Ministry

  • use renaissance of culture, rebirth of tourism and reconstruction of societal cultural values of Revenue generation, job creation, positive wealth evolution and rural development;
  • conduct research on the heritage of the state of Osun and advise government on same;
  • identify, explore and exploit the tourism infrastructure and articulate policy framework as relevant and attract investors on tourism and culture;
  • facilitate private sector participation in the development of tourism facilities;
  • organize exhibition and participate in festivals of Arts and Culture for the promotion of cultural diversity of the state and boost tourism;
  • regulate, classify, standardize and monitor the activities of the hotels, fast food services and other tourism enterprises;
  • revive historical spots and buildings, set up museums for cultural relaxation and educational tourism; and
  • to accommodate celebrations and ceremonies / festivals with the priority of generating revenue for the government.

Functions of the Ministry

Assess and package monument, ecological sites, antiquities facilities and tourism attraction for development investment and promotion purposes to make Osun State tourist destination

Maintain a permanent exhibition of monuments and museums, ecological site as peculiar to the ancestry and origin of Osun State as the cradle of the Yoruba’s and the historical relationship of the state with other people of the world

Build specifically the following kind of galleries

  3. Galleries of modern contemporary art
  4. Galleries of ancient art
  5. Osun State gallery of designs, craft, special workshop and studio project.
