Governor Adeleke Hails MDCN’s Final Full Accreditation to UNIOSUN
● As MDCN says UNIOSUN is now at par with UNILAG, OAU, ABU, and others.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for granting full and final accreditation for the Osun State University to graduate medical students under seven years of commencement.
The governor gave the commendation when he hosted the Registrar of the Council, Professor Fatimah Kyari and the accreditation team at the Government House in Osogbo on Friday evening..
Professor Fatimah Kyari who was represented by the Deputy Registrar, Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakanma lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke for doing the unusual in the provision of necessary tools that is required for the final full accreditation of the College of Medicine of UNIOSUN in a record seven years.
Dr. Nwakanma wondered how the Governor was able to take the university to the current enviable state in just three years, the result of which is the final full accreditation for the State owned University.
“This team has just approved and granted final full accreditation to the medical school. It didn’t come easy”.
According to him, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria since its establishment in 1963 has never compromised standards in the regulation of training of medical personnel that will be of export quality in Nigeria.
He said “until three months ago, Obafemi Awolowo University admission quota was 100 which was what was approved for UNIOSUN in 2023”.
“University of Lagos that was established in the ’60s has 150 admission quota for medical students till date despite its decades of existence. Sir, the oldest University in Nigeria, the 76 year old University of Ibadan that was ranked No 4 in Commonwealth nations in the 70s has a quota capacity of 180, even though the University limited their capacity to 120”.
The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria said “the requirements considered in allocating admission quota include the manpower, human resources available, capacity of the facilities, laboratories, the state of the art facilities in the hospitals, if they have what it takes to train students”.
The council accreditation team said they were impressed with the new hospital they saw. They therefore congratulate the Governor on the completion and handing over of the ultramodern Teaching Hospital donated to the state by the Alakija family.
“In a bid to encourage Your Excellency because of your huge investment in tertiary education especially, medical college, MDCN has not only granted full final accreditation for the College of Medicine in UNIOSUN but also placed the University at par with the training capacity of the University of Lagos and other big universities you can think of Nigeria, which is 150.
The Deputy Registrar, Dr Nnaemeka Nwakanma who said he has been to Osogbo severally in the last 10 years acknowledged that the Governor has done so much in terms of infrastructural developments than his predecessors saying that Senator Adeleke remains the only Governor in Nigeria who came into power on the good will of Nigerians within and beyond Osun State and still retains the goodwill, three years after he was sworn in.
Responding, Governor Ademola Adeleke who expressed happiness at the good news promised the accreditation team of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria that his administration will not rest in its oars to see that the University admission capacity for medicine and other related courses doubles by the time the council come for reaccreditation.
Senator Adeleke lamented the poor working condition and lack of conducive working environment that has resulted in brain drain popularly called japa syndrome saying that he had made up his mind to do whatever he can possibly do to make sure that Nigeria reclaims her lost glory starting with Osun State.
“When you go to the biggest hospitals in the UK, America and elsewhere in Europe, Nigerians are the best hands you will find there and it is because there is no conducive working environment for them in Nigeria but we must work together to reverse the trend.” The Governor asserted.
Governor Adeleke told the MDCN team that he vowed to use public resources to reengineer public facilities and assured the management of the UNIOSUN that the state government under his watch will continue to give necessary support to the citadel of learning.
