Osun Govt Condemns Opposition Misrepresentation of NPHCDA Report, Says Osun Remains Number One in the South West

The Osun state government has condemned an attempt by the Osun APC Campaign Council to misrepresent a report of the national health care agency on the state of primary health care centers in the country, affirming that Osun remains number one in primary health care access across the South West.
In a statement issued at Osogbo, the Commissioner for Information, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi said the federal agency had in its report indicated that some PHCs were inactive across the 36 states, pointing that Osun state under Governor Adeleke has accelerated the renovation, operationalisation and upgrading of her health centers from 2022 to date.
The commissioner noted that the agency’s report only referenced inactivity in a number of PHCs across Nigeria and that the report does not represent a national rating which is already being anchored by the Nigerian Governors Forum in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and the NPHCDA.
The statement noted that NGF’s PHC leadership Challenge is an annual rating and competitive exercise which also involves the Belinda Gate Foundation alongside a rigorous examination across all facets of primary health care services.
In the above challenge, we remind the opposition that Osun came first in both 2024 and 2025 for the South West based on a comprehensive rating which includes governance structure, funding access, equity and facility upgrade.
It is common knowledge that Osun State, under the able leadership of Governor Adeleke, had regained her lost glory by her emergence as the overall Champion in the Zonal Best Performing State Award (Southwest region) for two consecutive times, that is, in 2024 and 2025 (based on performances in 2023/2024 and 2024/2025).
It is worthy of note that Osun State brought home cheques in the sum of $500,000.00, being the award fund on each of the occasions. That fund is being ploughed back to the sector for continuous upgrade and revitalization.
While Osun came 4th at the national stage in 2024, the state moved a step up the ladder by emerging 3rd amongst the top 6 States that emerged as Zonal Champions in 2025.
This is a paradigm shift from the disgraceful outing witnessed at the maiden edition of the Gala/Awards night which was held on the 17th of May, 2023 (based on performance in 2022, during the tenure of Alh. Adegboyega Oyetola) when Borno State emerged as the overall winner while Osun state came a distant 26th position nationally.
While the statement chided the Osun APC for twisting fact, the state government noted that Osun primary health care had suffered serious setback under the last APC administration when a $20 million World Bank was squandered and diverted under a slush fund arrangement.
“No amount of manipulations can make the Osun residents to forget the brazen acts of misappropriation and illegal diversion of a huge part of over $20 million dollars grant received by the immediate past administration, from the European Union to other projects and also the sordid jobs and window dressing made to the Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the name of renovation without provision of water and solar energy to these facilities”, the statement posited.
Reeling out the administration redemptive strategy, the governor had in late 2022 gave express approval and release of funds for the renovation of 332 main/high volume PHCs (called Focal Centers) all through the 332 wards in Osun State, inclusive of provision of 24 hours Solar Energy and Water Supply to these facilities.
The renovation work was phased accordingly, beginning with 200 PHCs and which had been successfully renovated to world-class standards while renovation works on the remaining 132 centers was scheduled for phased completion at 50 PHCs at a time due to paucity of funds.
Despite the delay occasioned by the unjustifiable hijacking of over N300 billion Osun Local Government allocation by Osun APC, renovation of the first tranche of 50 is ongoing, with 30 at completion stage.
While the Oyetola administration played politics with health and other sectors through politicised last minute recruitment, the Adeleke administration focussed on raising morale and condition of service of existing health workers to immediately improve service delivery.
The Adeleke administration approved and implemented the passionate request by the nurses to enjoy a Grade Level 09 entry level into the Civil Service, as enjoyed by their colleagues in many states, and which the Oyetola’s administration blatantly rejected and turned a deaf ear to on several occasions.
Contrary to the neglect suffered under the Oyetola administration, Governor Adeleke also approved and implemented the payment of 100% hazard allowance of healthcare workers which is now in force in Osun State.
Governor Adeleke also provided various health service delivery equipment to the Primary Healthcare Centres in order to enhance the service while working on the standardization of health laboratories with a plan for one designated standard laboratory in each of the Local Government Areas.
To date, twelve of such laboratories have been established and outfitted to augment the Primary Health Care system in the 30 local government areas.
The administration also on a regular basis, ensured the distribution of requisite drugs to Primary Health Care Centres in order to guarantee the availability of drugs to the citizenry while training and capacity-building workshops for health care workers are routine activities in the service.
The commissioner who commended the commitment of the governor to Osun holistic growth dismissed the Osun APC allegation that “Adeleke has taken Osun health sector back to the stone age”, stressing that “The best way to shame your critics is to show them results”.
