Osun State Government has again assured residents of the state’s top preparedness to prevent Ebola virus from entering the state, announcing that all necessary preventive measures are already in place through the State Ministry of Health.
The first post-election state executive council meeting held on Friday deliberated extensively on the Ebola challenge and approved a plan of action submitted by the state’s ministry of health.
Also, the Council after setting aside the 2018 Amended Onijabe of Ijabe Chieftaincy Declaration and after reviewing the selection process for the emergence of the new king for the town, approved the appointment of Babatunde Omotosho Tajudeen as the new Onijabe of Ijabeland with immediate effect.
Though no single case of Ebola is yet to be reported, the council’s decision centred on the need to embark on preventive rather than curative measures as highlighted by the Osun State Ministry of health for likely suspected cases.
While allaying the fears of all residents, the state Commissioner for Health, Hon Jola Akintola urged both public and private hospitals in the state to promptly report suspected cases.
A press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi at the end of the meeting urges both public and private hospitals in the state to also be on alert to ensure that they are adequately prepared.
As health authorities at the federal level are intensifying contact tracing, surveillance and emergency preparedness for Ebola virus, so is Osun State Ministry of Health equally not leaving any stone unturned in this regard.
In the meantime, the Council also at its sitting approved the elevation of some minor chiefs to part II recognized chiefs in the state and approved new traditional rulers for various communities in different local Government areas of the state.
