Profile of the Ministry

PREAMBLE

The Ministry of Rural Development and Community Affairs came into being in 2019 when there was a slight restructuring of the State Civil Service for easy and effective administration.  The Ministry was carved out from the Office of Water Resources, Rural Development and Community Affairs.

 

Objectives/Mandates Of the Ministry

  • Formulate policies on Rural and Community Development for implementation by relevant Agencies of Government in the Osun State
  • Coordinate and liaise with other State MDAs and all Local Governments on Rural Development matters
  • Liaise with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other Federal Government Agencies including Federal Institutions of learning and internal organization on matters affecting the development of Rural Areas of the Osun State
  • Gather, collate and analyze Community Development Affairs data with a view to developing and disseminating useful information relevant to improving rural development and community affairs in the State;
  • Coordinate the Community Development Departments and units of all Local Governments to ensure harmonious development and steady progress of all identified rural communities in the Osun State;
  • Mobilize the private sector for active participation in the rural development efforts of the State Government;

 

  • Mobilize the rural communities to accept responsibility for maintenance of rural infrastructure (roads and sanitation)
  • Provide rural water supply, rural electrification, rural feeder roads and rural concrete foot bridges.
  • Provide amenities and related infrastructure in rural areas for improved quality of life.
  • Promote voluntary agencies, private sector and individuals’ involvement for rural development.
  • Coordinate Community Development Associations and Neighborhood Watch Matters as well as participate in National and International events that provide opportunities for learning developments in the sector;
