Osun Labour Leaders Endorse Accord for Adeleke’s Re-Election

  • We Won’t Allow Oppressors, Exploiters to Return to Power – NLC Chairman

OSOGBO – 11/12/2025 – Osunstate.gov.ng

Labour leaders from across the unions in Osun state under the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) today endorsed the Accord Party for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 guber elections.

The state labour movement made the declaration after the state governor briefed them about his political movement from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord today at the Banquet hall of the Government House.

A total of 32 labour leaders representing various unions were present including Osun Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman, Comrade Bimbo Fasasi while the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo who spoke on their behalf vowed that the labour movement will not allow oppressors and exploiters to return to power in Osun state.

The NLC boss who declared that the Governor has done passionately well spoke further in his address to the Governor: “We have never had it so good as a labour movement. As far as workers are concerned, you have done well on workers welfare.

“Before you came they lied to us. But you surprised us with your care, faithfulness and truthfulness . There was a white paper we gave you in 2022, we thought you would execute a section of it during your first term. But you shocked us by completing implementation in 2024.

“Our declaration of support for you is not political. This is the reality of experience. That is why we are going all out to support you. We will never return evil for good. I will never betray a good man. As far as we are concerned, the entire labour movement will reward you with huge votes and support.

“The opposition have forgotten that voters are our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, aunties , neighbours and more. We are not ingrates. The opposition when they came to serve Osun robbed us. When they came to serve they treated us as slaves.

“2026 is not Adeleke’s fight; it is for us the labour leaders. We will not watch and allow people who repressed and exploited us to take over Osun again. We have the votes and we will deploy and mobilise for the governors re-election.

“On minimum wage you surprised us. You empowered us during negotiation for minimum wage. it never happened anywhere in the world. If not for the debt you inherited, you would have even done more than that. We are overwhelmed.

“We will not betray you. We are a multiplier of voters. They will meet us when they come to lobby our parents, families. We will remind them how they treated us. We will show them we have not forgotten their evil deeds when they governed our state.

“What will they use to campaign? No federal might can stop the will of the people from prevailing. We will not run away. We will vote and we will stand by our votes. We are in the streets. We own the streets and we will stand by our rights to vote and be voted. You will win with wide margins. Nobody can rig our votes.

“We wholeheartedly endorse Accord as a platform of choice. We will join you during campaigns. We will let the public know how much you have done for Osun. We will demonstrate your good records. We will mobilise and ensure victory for us”, the labour leader noted.

Briefing the labour leaders earlier, the governor said “as a major ally of my government and political agenda, I am formally notifying you that I have moved to Accord to seek re-election in August 2026.

“I consulted widely with people and my God. You are one of the critical constituencies I consulted among others. We eventually settled for Accord because of the labour movement.

“Do you know why? The Accord has the welfare of the people and the workers as its main agenda. As you all know, workers welfare has always been number one on my governance agenda. Hence, my choice of Accord to continue our ongoing policies, programmes and projects for the well-being of our people.

“I have also reviewed our five point agenda as follows:

  1. Integrated Citizens and workers’ welfare
  2. Infrastructure consolidation for economic prosperity
  3. Increased Agro-Industrial Expansion for Youth Empowerment
  4. Innovations for Health, Education and Social Care
  5. Improved Business Environment for Job Creation

“I thank you for your endorsement of my second term bid. It is an honour to have the entire labour movement endorsing your re-election more than a year before the poll. I pledge to remain a strong ally of the labour movement as usual.

“It is however appropriate for me to now ACCORDINGLY, formally invite you to ACCORDINGLY endorse my new political platform under which I will ACCORDINGLY be re-contesting come 2026”, the governor noted.

Present at the briefing alongside the governor was the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye, Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, Commissioner for Information, Hon Kolapo Alimi and Permanent Secretary, Human Resources services and Capacity Development, Gbenga Fadele.

Signed:
Mallam Olawale Rasheed,
Spokesperson to the State Governor.
