OSUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT MATTER: THOSE PUNISHING THE GRASSROOTS CANNOT HIDE FROM THE RULE OF LAW OR THE VERDICT OF VOTERS
OSOGBO – 14/01/2026 – Osunstate.gov.ng
The Osun State Government has noted yet another desperate attempt by a self-acclaimed political warlord whose days are numbered in Obokun federal constituency as a ‘methusela’ representative, to twist court processes, confuse the public, and justify actions that are openly hostile to the welfare of Osun people at the grassroots.
Let it be stated clearly and without ambiguity that any individual or group punishing Osun citizens by weaponising the Local Government issue, including the withholding or obstructing payment of Local Government funds, is not fighting the state government. They are fighting the people, and the people will respond appropriately when the time comes.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Osun State Government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke states as follows:
- No Court Ordered the Reinstatement of APC’s Illegal Local Government Council Administrators:
Contrary to Anti People’s Congress, otherwise know as APC’s loud but hollow propaganda; no court, including the Court of Appeal in its judgment of 10th February 2025, issued a direct, executory order reinstating any APC Local Government chairmen or councillors. What we are witnessing is a political attempt to smuggle power through the backdoor after losing it through lawful means.
Courts do not rule by sentiment, and governance is not conducted by media tantrums.
- Judgments Cannot Be Converted into Instruments of Grassroots Punishment:
Those who now cite court judgments while encouraging actions that starve Local Governments of funds should know this; they cannot claim to love the rule of law while actively strangling the grassroots, and suffocating the livelihood of Osun citizens.
Local Government funds are meant for teachers, health workers, market women, traditional institutions, sanitation, and community services, not for settling political scores. Anyone blocking these funds is openly declaring war on the Osun grassroots populace, and history shows that such cruelty is never forgiven by voters. Notably, for Osun citizen, forgiveness of manufactured hardship is a sin.
- No Stay of Execution Was Required Where No Executory Order Exists:
Imperatively, argument about stay of execution or appeal is a legal smokescreen. A stay only applies where there is a clear order to be enforced. You cannot stay what does not exist. Manufacturing legal drama does not create legal authority, without prejudice.
- OSIEC Will Not Be Dragged Into Political Mischief:
The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission operates under the Constitution, not under threats, blackmail, or partisan interpretations of judgments. Elections will be conducted lawfully, not at gunpoint or under propaganda pressure, as APC is trying to hijack the people’s mandate under armed accomplices.
- Local Government Autonomy Is Not a License for Political Self-Help:
Autonomy does not mean anarchy. It does not permit individuals to declare themselves in office, seize public spaces, or attempt to access public funds without lawful backing. Democracy is not a jungle, and Osun will not be turned into one for the comfort of failed politicians. At least, not in the desperate interest of a dejected helsman.
- Those Punishing Osun People Will Be Punished by Osun People:
Let it be on record that any attempt to frustrate Osun Local Governments, cripple grassroots development, or punish innocent citizens in the name of politics is noted by the people. The Osun electorate is watching, recording, and will respond decisively.
The Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke will continue to stand on the side of the people, the Constitution, and the rule of law. We will not bow to political noise, nor will we allow the grassroots to be held hostage by those who lost legitimacy and now seek relevance through chaos.
The rule of law will prevail, and the people’s mandate will be protected.
