Osun State Police Command has assured that it will do every thing to ensure a smooth conduct of local government and governorship elections in the state this year. The state is expected to hold elections into its 30 local government areas before the end of April while governorship election is also expected to hold before September.
Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Dorothy Gimba, who spoke with newsmen in her office, said the police would not take side before and during the elections.
The police boss said: “The state police command has started strategizing and we shall continue to strategize to ensure that the conduct of elections in the state this year is devoid of crisis.”
She explained that the command had also increased its intelligence policing and evolved measures to ensure that it gives prompt response to all distress calls from residents of the state.
Gimba informed that the command had issued warning to all registered political parties in the state on the need to respect and conduct their activities within the dictates of the electoral laws.
She said: “We are poised to ensure that the local government and governorship elections coming up in few months time are conducted without disruption or infraction of the laws. We will be up and doing. We have increased our intelligence policing and ensure that
we work harder than before.
“We have also ensured that we hold regular meetings with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties along with other security agencies ahead of the election.”
She, therefore, called on members of the public not to hesitate to volunteer information on any threat to peace in any part of the state, assuring that such information would be treated with confidentiality.
