To ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems that drive economic growth and enhance lives of citizenries in the State as well as environmental responsibilities.
OBJECTIVES OF MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION
The Objectives of the Ministry are:
1. develop and Implement Transportation Policies
2. promote the Development of Transportation Industry:
3. advise the State Government on Transport Planning
4. Â regulate Public Transportation which includes Road, Rail, Air and Waterways;
5. register Motor Vehicles, Issue and Renew Licenses for Commercial and Private vehicles;
6.  supervise and Control State Division Petrol Pumps;
âĶ ensure Traffic control, enforce State and National Laws that govern the safe use of vehicles
registered in the Osun State;
âĶ educate and Sensitize Drivers, Motorists and the General public on the proper
use of the Highways;
âĶ conduct research on Driversâ behaviours and Traffic Safety with a view to bringing effective
and efficient safety improvement;
10. register and regulate the conduct of Driving Schools in Osun State;
11. regulate and Conduct Vehicle Inspection Tests and Certification of Road
Worthiness of Vehicles;
12. manage and Develop Transportation Infrastructure (e.g. Bus-Stops, Bus Terminals,
Trailer Parks and other transport infrastructure);
13.  identify, Develop, Promote and Maintain alternative methods of Traffic Management
and Road Safety;
14.  cooperate with Bodies, Agencies and other Stakeholders engaged in Road safety activities
in the prevention of Accidents on Highways;
15.  set, Monitor and Enforce Standards and Guidelines on Vehicular emissions.
- Traffic Management and Control:The Ministry is involved in ensuring free flow of vehicles especially at junctions/intersections. Special traffic control is done at peak periods and market locations as situation demands. For harmonious relationship among all road users especially Professional Transport operators, the Ministry serve as moderators for various Transport Unions in the State, stakeholdersâ meetings are often held with them.The Agency is responsible for free flow of traffic on all roads in the State through enforcement of Traffic Laws 2008 as amended 2011, and further performs the following major functions amongst others:ÂâĶ Collaborates with other law enforcement Agencies in ensuring free flow of traffic in Osun State (like FRSC, Police, DSS, NSCDC) and Sensitizing members of the public on the need for safety on all roads e.g. Aabo loju popo and Road Show (Ember months programme)âĶ Educating Drivers, Motorists and the general public on the proper use of the Highways (through workshops & meetings held with them and visits to Motor Parks).âĶ Registration of Motor Vehicles, issuing and renewing licenses for Commercial and private vehicles;âĶ Conduct Research on Driversâ behavior and Traffic Safety with a view to bringing effective and efficient safety improvement;âĶ Regulate and conduct Vehicle Inspection Tests and Certification of Road Worthiness of Vehicles;âĶ Register and regulate the conduct of Driving Schools in the State;âĶ Setting, Monitoring and Enforcement of Standards and Guidelines on Vehicular Emissions:  Â
Functions And Responsibilities
The Ministry of Transportation, being a Revenue generating Ministry as well as a service provider, carry-out various functions under the following Units:
A. O-TRAM UNIT (Traffic Marshals):
- Traffic Control;
- Enforcement of Traffic Rules and Regulations;
- Okada Identity Management
- Park Management and Operation
B. VEHICLE INSPECTION SERVICE UNIT (Vehicle Inspection Officers):
- Inspection of Commercial and Private Vehicles for roadworthiness
- Issuance of Road Worthiness Certificate
- Accident Vehicle Inspection / Reporting
- Inspection of Accidents and reports to the Police
- Identification and supervision of Road Traffic Signs and Markings
- Location of bus stops in conjunction with the Local Government Authority
- Supervision of Private Car Hire Services
- Testing of Candidates for Driving Licenses
- Issuance of Driving Test Certificate
- Supervision of private Driving Schools to maintain standard
- Public enlightenmentâLectures and road safety campaigns etc
- Sales of Vehicles / Motorcycles Stickers, BOT, Stage Carriage & Emblems
- Registration of all Categories of Motor vehicle and motorcycle
- Driverâs License
- Issuance of Learners Permit
C. MOTOR VEHICLE ADMINISTRATION UNIT (MVA OFFICERS):

- To function efficiently and effectively, the Ministry is sub-divided into Six (6) Departments and operates with the following structures:

âĶ Department of Transport Engineering;
âĶ Department of Vehicle Inspection Services; and
âĶ Department of Planning, Research & Statistics.
