Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke today commissioned the second phase of 10.5km long abandoned Osogbo Ikirun/Ila-Odo road for the benefit of the users.
While speaking at the commissioning held at Alamisi Market, Ikirun, the State Governor said he was delighted to commission the road, noting that the government have been able to meet the yearnings of the people.
He recounted that the road project which commenced on January 9,2012,under the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola was later abandoned by the last administration.He said he decided to complete it within the first 100 days of his administration, stressing that he has embarked on 12 projects across the State.
Governor Adeleke urged the motorists to make good use of the road and not to dump refuse on the road for it to last long. He also advised motorists to be cautious while plying the road to guard against accident.
In his address of welcome, the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Works and Transportation, Engr. Olusola Ajao thanked the Governor for his commitment to the completion of the project.
He stated that availability of good road network is one of the notable indices usually used to measure the growth and development of a state, adding that the Governor’s resolve to push forward the project is an indication of his administration’s determination to develop the State.
He also reminded the people of the State not to forget their civic responsibility of paying their taxes and levies to the State Government coffers in order to enable it continue provision of other vital social amenities.
Delivering his address, the Managing Director of Sammya Nigeria Limited, Mr Sammy Adigun acknowledged that the project marks a major milestone in the development agenda of the State.
He assured the residents of the State and the Governor that the company is fully in support of Government and will deploy all its financial resources to the successful completion of section 2 of the project.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Wahab Kayode, Eesa of Ikirun, Adetoyese Kareem Lawal and the Park Management Chairman, Ikirun, Alhaji Mudasiru thanked the Governor for the kind gesture, promising to support the administration of Governor Adeleke throughout his tenure in the State.
