PROFILE OF OSUN STATE WATER CORPORATION.

Osun State Water Corporation (OSWC) has been in existence since the creation of the State on 27th August, 1991 and backed by the Water Corporation of Osun State Law, 1992.  This law was repealed and another legal framework establishing the Corporation, the Osun State Water Sector Law 2015, was enacted.

The Corporation is headed by a General Manager who is responsible to the State Governor via the Chairman of a constituted board’s members by the Executive Governor of the State or the Commissioner for Water Resources, If the Board is not in place.

The Osun State Water Corporation is saddled with the responsibility of supplying reliable and sufficient potable water in an efficient, cost effective and sustainable manner to the satisfaction of our customers. The Corporation manages and operates twelve (12) urban water schemes spread across the state and collect revenue from consumers.

The Water Corporation serves various communities through transmission lines, booster pumping stations and storage reservoirs with about 720km of distribution

pipeline, including 28,931 house connections out of which 5,700 are active and 985 public stand pipes out of which 425 are active.  The entire population in terms of households’ service is about 6.7% of the state total population.

The scope of the service provided are sufficiently complex hence its establishment as a separate body known as Water Corporation, outside the operations of Government Departments.

The laws setting it up do not only allow considerable flexibility for high degree of accountability as against the rigid demands of the Civil Service.

It also generates some measure of autonomy that is subject to Government general directives for its operations to ensure the achievement of the desired objectives without sacrificing accountability.
