Profile of the ministry

Department of Litigation and Advisory Services

  • The objective of the department is to administer on all Civil Matters i.e. Civil Cases involving Government of Osun State. The department is responsible for attending and representing the State in all Civil Matters/Cases in all courts of records in Nigeria. The department sit and represent the Government of Osun State in all Civil Cases in court and gives advice on all issues relating to civil matters to all MDA’s in the State.

Department of Legal and Judicial Reforms & The Mediation Centre

  1. Development of new Bill to be passed into Law to reflect the need of the society as well as amendment of the existing Laws to cater for the current fraud in the society.
  2. The Mediation Centre try to ensure that forms is created to solve issues between the citizens which involve legal matters.
  3. Function and Responsibilities
  4. The department Draft Bills to be trans milled to the House of Assembly of passage into Law.
  5. Vetting of Executive sponsored Bill before transmission to the House.
  6. Amendment of existing Law considered obsolete.
  7. Constant research into modern and current trend in Legal drafting.
  8. Render advice and make proposal on improvement that can be introduced into the operation and or application of Laws.

The Mediation Centre, Segment of the Department

  • Receive compliant from member of the public.
  • Create forum for the parties to sit together under the direction of a mediator who shall assist the parties to resolve their differences.
  • The Lawyer in the department advice the parties on the position of the Law on the issue at stake.
  • The Lawyer/Mediator draft terms of agreement/settlement for the parties to sign.
  • The department do refer the parties to the office of Public Defender for Litigation in court when it is observed at a party is bent on cleating or oppressing another party.

Department of Legal Administration and Supplies

  • Function and Responsibilities of the Department
    1. Preparation of Annual Budget Estimates
    2. making submissions and preparation of letters and memos on Administration and Supplies matters
    3. Coordinating staff establishment matters such as Promotion, Discipline, Leave requests, Retirement and Training.
    4. Coordinating welfare of staff in general
    5. Covering of management meetings and
    6. Servicing as Co-signatory alongside the D(F&A) to the Ministry’s Running Cost Account.

Department of Public Prosecution

Objectives of the Office of Public Prosecution:

    1. To ensure that the criminal justice system is well managed
    2. That the correctional centre is not congested
    3. To ensure speedy trial of offenders in various courts in Nigeria.
    4. To ensure that Justice is not darned people that are in conflict with the Law in Osun State.
    5. To ensure quick rendition of Legal advice.
    6. To see that those who are culpable or liable for felony, misdemeanor and capital offences are quickly charged to the appropriate courts through promptly filling of information and proof of evidence.
    7. To ensure that innocent citizen in the society are not unjustly or wrongly prosecuted in courts.

Department of Finance & Accounts

  • 1. To maintain a good record keeping of all functional transaction in the Ministry.
    2. To make fund available for the Ministry to Finance its responsibilities
    3. To prepare annual budget and final accounts of the Ministry.
    4. To provide financial advice to the management in due course.
    5. To oversee the affair of the department with a view to smooth running of the Ministry.
