Vision of the Ministry

 

To create a vibrant and sustainable cooperative sector that contribution significantly to the socio-economic development of the country

 

 

Mission of the Ministry

 

 To provide leadership, guidance and support to cooperative organization in order to enhance their capacity, sustainability and impact on the socio-economic development of the nation.

OBJECTIVE OF THE MINISTRY OF COOPERATIVES AND EMPOWERMENT

  1. Provision of enabling environment for the cooperative sector of the economic to thrive
  2. Replace unemployement through diverse empowerment scheme/policy of Government.
  3. Poverty alleviation through cooperative initiatives and empowerment programmes.
  4. Facilitation of access to credit schemes with simple digit interest rates through the Micro credit agency,
  5. Academic research and development through the cooperative college and
  6. Revenue generation through coordination of cooperatives and the cooperative college.

 

Functions And Responsibilities

The Ministry of Cooperatives and Empowerment is responsible for promoting and supporting the development of cooperatives and empowering marginalized and vulnerable populations some of the function and responsibilities of the Ministry may include.

Except in areas where private efforts are negligible as in dairy production and where the private sector shows no meaningful interest, the Ministry does not involve itself in direct commercial production but encourages agriculture to become private sector driven

The role of the Ministry from the foregoing can be broadly grouped into provision of inputs, tools, equipment and facilities to enable farmers increase their productivity in their area/ field of operations and to process / store and market their produce orderly and also back the provisions above with technical know-how so that farmers can make the best use of them.

The Ministry produce an enabling environment for the existing and prospective farmers. Also to train and demonstrate areas of agricultural production that are yet to be attractive to the private sector
