GOVERNOR ADELEKE SALUTES LABOUR ICON, COMRADE HASSAN SUNMONU AT 85.

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has congratulated the pioneer Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu, on the occasion of his 85th birthday, celebrating him as a labour icon whose courage and pro-people struggles shaped industrial movement in Nigeria.

Governor Adeleke recognises the highly respected Elderstatesman’s selflessness in the struggle for a better welfare for the working class and pensioners in the country, acknowledging the significant place that his activisms and uncompromising stands have in driving economic wellbeing of ordinary Nigerians.

The Governor affirms the immense honour and respect that comes with the principle of the former General Secretary of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), applauding him as a figure of inspiration for young people in Osun state and beyond as far as labour movement is concerned.

“It is my immense honour that I join family, friends and people of goodwill to celebrate an exceptional labour icon, Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu, the pioneer Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). Over the years, Pa Sunmonu shaped the labour movement with his honesty and firm commitment to achieve better welfare for the working class and pensioners,” Governor Adeleke was quoted as saying in a congratulatory message.

“Right from 1984 when he served as the NPC Chairman, Pa Sunmonu principled struggles have broken the shackles of oppression and created the condition for some of the benefits that workers are enjoying today. In Osun, the labour movement have enjoyed his guidance and goodwill in navigating complex welfare issues.

“As he marks a new age today, I thank God for the significant contributions that his life reflects, the lives that his struggles has impacted and the generations that his honesty will help guide.”

Governor Adeleke prays to God Almighty Allah to bless the octogenarian with continued good health and sound mind to allow humanity to enjoy more of his wise counsel and dedicated services to public good, particularly the welfare of workers and pensioners.
