American Don Commends Gov Aregbesola On Opon Imo

An Assistant Professor from Murray State University in United States of America, Dr. Bellarmine Ezumah has commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for his initiative in producing and distributing Opon Imo (tablet of knowledge) to students in senior public schools in the state.

The American don gave the commendation today in Osogbo when she paid a working visit to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere.

She said she was amazed when she discovered on the internet that Governor Aregbesola had already started producing and distributing the tablets of knowledge to students in senior public schools thereby  digitizing education by raising the level of education in the state.

Dr. Bellamine Ezumah also disclosed that her visit to Nigeria which was sponsored by her university to do research has been worthwhile as she also discovered that the State Governor has also raised the level of governance as the state is witnessing all-round development.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere disclosed that the tablet of knowledge (Opon Imo) was actually conceived by the governor himself.

He explained that the education sector was in a deplorable condition when the present administration took-off in 2010 hence intervention in the sector include building of modern schools with state of the art facilities, provision of free lunch (called O-Meals) to all pupils in elementary public schools and provision of free uniform to 750,000 pupils in public schools in the state.

The Commissioner then explained that the state is also benefitting from other interventions as (Omoluabi Garment Factory producing  uniforms has employed over 1,000 tailors while the factory producing Opon Imo is to be established in Ilesa and will provide employment to qualified youths 

Also present during the visit were the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Strategy Engr. Olusegun Aduroja, the Director of Press and Public Relations Mr. Dapo Ajayi, the Director of Social Mobilization and Strategy, Mr. Bunmi Oladele and the Deputy Director, Grassroot and Public Enlightenment, Mrs. Boade Shaniyi as well as Mr. Wale Oni from Osun State University.
