"Osun Has Performed Beyond Expectation" – Ooni Of Ife

The State of Osun is on course for development and a socio-economic transformation like it has never seen before courtesy the tireless efforts of the current administration in the state led by His Excellency, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
With the vision to ensure ‘freedom for all’ and ‘life abundant’ for everyone within the state through a diversified economy, the Government of the State of Osun has setup several programmes and initiatives to make the vision a reality.
Some of these initiatives undertaken within the past 3 and half years include a massive restructuring of the educational sector with the creation of The Osun Elementary School Feeding and Health Programme known as O-MEALS which cares for 254,000 students and empowers over 3000 community caterers. Another initiative within education is the unification of school uniforms (O-UNIFORM) to create a unique identity for students, promote the local culture and stimulate the local economy.
The implementation of the OUNIFORM scheme, has attracted additional socio economic benefits, such as the building of the biggest Garment Factory in West Africa, named OMOLUABI GARMENT FACTORY located in Osogbo. There is also the technological innovation with the Opón Ìmò Technology Enhanced Learning System (OTELS) which is a bold step in tackling learning problems with the use of ICT.
In the agricultural sector, the State of Osun has designed and is implementing the Osun Rural Enterprise and Agriculture Program also known as O-REAP. The administration intends to use agriculture as a core focus of the State’s economic development plan by serving 10% of the over three billion Naira ($20 million) per month food market in Lagos – the largest market in western Africa.
The youth haven’t been left out, as the Government of the State of Osun has empowered over 40,000 youth through the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES), a revolving volunteers’ scheme. The scheme has been used as an anchor to place some 5,000 youths in the technology sector with OYES-Tech, while 996 OYES Cadets have been empowered in modern agric practices with over 40 youths trained in Germany for the same purpose.
Social concerns have also not been neglected by the Government of the State of Osun as Agba Osun Elderly Scheme. Agba Osun provides welfare for highly vulnerable seniors who have do not have guardian support. The scheme currently provides monetary support to some 1,602 elders as well as free and personal medical attention.
There is also the Provision of micro credit of N600m to 18,000 women beneficiaries as well as provision of Agro-processing equipment at 40% subsidy rate for women and youth so all social sectors of the economy are well taken care of.
The State of Osun has also witnessed a massive development of boundary highways, inter-city roads, township roads, local government roads and rural roads.
These developments and changes have been observed by many people within and outside the State of Osun including paramount traditional rulers such as The Ooni of Ife who recently said:
“it is clear testimony that the present government has performed even beyond people’s expectation and I urge the people to support the government so as to be able to do more.”
The State of Osun currently has the 3rd largest GDP per capita in Nigeria despite being the 34th state in the federal allocation revenue.
