INVESTMENT IN EXPANDING HEALTHCARE ACCESS IN OSUN YIELDING RESULTS– DR. AKINDELE

••• AS OSUN WON $500,000 AS BEST PERFORMING STATE IN SOUTHWEST IN UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE

The Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Public Health, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, has described ongoing efforts to reposition healthcare in Osun state for effective service delivery by the Adeleke administration as an investment that promises many benefits, saying the recognition of the state as the best performance state in the Southwest zone in Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) as just a tip of what is to come.

Dr. Akindele who welcomed the recognition as a true reflection of the commitment to healthy living in Osun state, said the special attention given to expanding healthcare access for the people by the Governor has been justified.

“A healthy population is vital to economic development. And, from the time of assuming office, Governor Adeleke has prioritised efforts and interventions that will guarantee a healthy population,” Dr. Akindele noted.

“In the last two years, primary healthcare facilities have been upscaled to improve service delivery while vulnerable population, notably pensioners and persons with disabilities, have been enrolled on the state’s health insurance scheme. All of these are done to ensure that Osun people can have access to healthcare when the need arise without hassle, ensuring a healthy population, which will translate into increased economic activities.”

Dr. Akindele said the UHC award for Osun state, which comes with a $500,000 cash reward, was a validation beyond the state that the Adeleke administration’s investment in healthcare is real and impactful, noting that this will further spur Governor Adeleke to sustain interest in making sure that the state earns the top spot in the entire country by investing more in the health sector.

He congratulated the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Jola Akintola, for spearheading efforts that brings about this honour for Osun state while also commending the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), Osun Primary Healthcare Board, and relevant agencies for their collaborative efforts in achieving this feat.

“This honour is a collective one, even beyond the Health ministry, especially the Chief of Staff, Accountant-General, Budget Office, and a host of others, who are very supportive in ensuring the successful executions of programmes and interventions that will benefit the health of Osun people,” Dr. Akindele added.
