Osun SUBEB Reaffirms Commitment to Free Education, Debunks Claims of Illegal School Fees.
OSOGBO February 28, 2026
The Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has officially debunked reports circulating in some quarters regarding the alleged collection of illegal levies in public primary schools across the state.
The Executive Chairman of Osun SUBEB, Hon. Ibukun Fadipe, addressed the media today to clarify the administration’s stance, describing the allegations as “baseless misinformation” designed to detract from the educational milestones of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
Hon. Fadipe maintained that the state’s policy on free education remains “total and non-negotiable”. He challenged anyone with evidence of unauthorized collections to come forward with proof of payment. “The government is working tirelessly to ensure that education is free and accessible for every child in Osun State,” Fadipe stated.
“There is no directive from this board or the state government authorizing the collection of any fees from pupils, and we challenge anyone with receipts of such transactions to present them for immediate investigation.”
The SUBEB Chairman clarified that the only administrative fee currently in place is the Education Trust Levy (ETL), a legacy policy carried over from earlier administrations. He observed the following: Each student is required to pay 500 Naira once a year; neither the State Government nor SUBEB receives these funds. The levy is solely allocated to the upkeep and small repairs of school facilities to guarantee a favourable learning environment. It is paid directly into the accounts of the individual primary schools.
The chairman highlighted that under the current leadership, the state has eliminated the burden on parents where students previously had to provide their furniture. “Today in Osun, you will not see students carrying desks or lockers to school. The government has taken that burden off the parents,” he added.
Osun SUBEB urges parents and guardians to ignore the “distraction” of political detractors and continues to encourage the public to report any school official found demanding money outside the authorized ETL.

Hon. Ibukun Fadipe
Chairman, Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
